US economy shrinks again ringing recession alarms
US economy
The US economy contracted again in the first quarter of 2019, with the downward trend continuing into the second quarter.
The official GDP figure for the first three months of the year was revised downwards from 1.7% to 1.6%, meaning that the economy is shrinking again.
This follows news that unemployment has remained stubbornly high,
and wages have barely grown in over a decade.
economists are now warning that we are officially in a recession,
and that something must be done to prevent it from becoming worse.
